All are invited to the experience “Who is the Man of the Shroud” — an in-depth traveling exhibit and curriculum about the 2,000-year-old burial cloth of Jesus Christ known as the Shroud of Turin.
An opening program will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Cana Hall of in the lower level of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 W. Main St. in Jefferson City.
The exhibit will be open to the public at specific hours through Monday, Sept. 14.
Sponsored by the Shroud Exhibitors of Central Missouri (SECMO) in partnership with the creators of “Who is the Man of the Shroud,” Othonia Inc., (othonia.org) the exhibit encourages seekers of all ages and faiths to encounter the Scriptural, historical and scientific premises that point to the authenticity of the artifact and the reality of the man it reveals.
The Sept. 8 opening program will include Father Stephen W. Jones VG, vicar general of the Jefferson City diocese and pastor of Cathedral of St. Joseph Parish, and representatives from SECMO and Othonia attending, with Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus serving as the honor guard.
“Who is the Man of the Shroud” features a replica of the Shroud and a series of panels that guide visitors through the cloth’s documented history, physical characteristics, scientific study, and parallels with the Gospel accounts of the Passion and burial of Jesus. Visitors can also scan QR codes to access an audio docent, quick facts, and deeper resources on their phones.
“The desire for the Shroud of Turin traveling exhibit and curriculum in Missouri is apparent in the growing interest from seekers as well as people of faith,” said Norbert Plassmeyer, SECMO President. “To serve that need, we are honored to partner with Othonia and grateful to our generous benefactors and volunteers — especially the Missouri Knights of Columbus for their commitment to transport and set up the exhibit wherever it needs to go.
“This effort stands to educate and inspire the uninformed while strengthening the faith of believers for years to come,” he said.
Othonia Inc. gets its name from a Greek word used in Scripture for the linens associated with Jesus’ burial.
Othonia’s diverse team of specialists — scientists, historians, scholars and believers from many backgrounds — share the mission of leading people to encounter Jesus through the eyes of reason and faith.
Othonia recently launched a five-part Shroud curriculum for Fall 2026 that includes a teacher guide, student workbook, video lessons, classroom slides and family connections.
SECMO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation working in partnership with Othonia Inc. to bring the Shroud of Turin traveling exhibit and curriculum to Missouri.
Through this effort, SECMO seeks to support educational, cultural, historical and faith-informed learning opportunities for schools, churches, civic organizations and the broader public.
